L'Oréal Paris was the sponsor of the 14th annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. A highlight of the festival was Variety's annual "10 Directors to Watch" event, where the first ever L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth "Vision" Award was presented by L'Oréal and Women In Film to Tia Lessin, the female documentary filmmaker of Trouble The Water. She was chosen by a jury comprised of members of Women in Film, a non-profit organization devoted to the development, support, and promotion of women in the field of entertainment. L'Oréal Paris spokesperson Andie MacDowell presented the award and $15,000 prize.
The L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth "Vision" award was created to honor a female filmmaker whose work reflects the spirit of L'Oréal Paris' new Women of Worth initiative, a grassroots program inspired by the signature phrase "Because I'm Worth It" that recognizes women from around the country who serve their communities, inspire others by example, and have an innate sense of social responsibility and act on it. Trouble the Water follows Kimberly Rivers Roberts and her husband Scott both during and after Hurricane Katrina as they battle floodwaters, government neglect, and financial hardship with a grace and spirit that inspires even the most jaded heart. This film was also awarded the Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival from a pool of 3,624 feature film submissions. Throughout the festival, celebrities like Mischa Barton, Marcia Gay Harden, Sanaa Lathan and Jimmy Fallon stopped by the L'Oréal Paris Lounge at the Entertainment Weekly Photo Studio where makeup and hair experts were on hand primping talent for their photos, to be published in Entertainment Weekly's annual issue highlighting the amazing films premiering at Sundance. |
