Angelia Curran
41 - Smiths Station, AL
|
Angelia Curran made history when she joined the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department as a junior firefighter. Working her way up through the ranks and challenging long-held beliefs that women couldn't be firefighters, she is now the Deputy Chief of the department.
For over 25 years, Angelia has been making many contributions to the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, including responding to firefighting and emergency medical service calls, training firefighters and EMTs, as well as handling all the department's administrative responsibilities.
She assumed responsibility for the department's fire prevention program and has been recognized for her work with several children who actually saved their own lives or those of family during a fire.
Angelia has served in other leadership roles, directing the new Citizen Emergency Response Teams program for the local Emergency Management Agency. Currently her team in Smiths Station is the model for the county.
She also served as the president of the County Firefighters Association and was the organizer for a large fundraising program to purchase a Fire Safety Trailer for the county to help children learn about Fire Prevention.
With her volunteer efforts, Automated External Defibrillators and training came to the volunteer fire departments, in the region. She was instrumental in raising money to purchase the defibrillators for the fire departments and local sheriff's department.
That's why Angelia is a 2007
Woman Of Worth. |
